There are 3 sub-styles of the Industrial Chic look: Urban, Vintage and Retro Industrial Chic. Simplicity and linear elements are often utilised to project a sleek and contemporary visual effect in Urban Industrial Chic, unlike the Vintage and Retro sub-styles.
It is not difficult to achieve the Urban Industrial Chic look with basic furnishings since the very essence of this style is no-frills and no clutter.
Start with a neutral color palatte – think greys and whites. To add some warmth to the space, layer in some warm wood tones. The overall colour palette reflects the colours found in the materials used for the furniture, most of which are likely to be metal and wood. For a contemporary twist and to enliven the atmosphere, you may add a bright accent colour like lime green, tangerine or fuchsia.
Use the architecture of your space to your advantage and put the “bones” of the structure on display. Industrial Chic spaces are often wide, open spaces with exposed pipes, brick or beams. Don't be afraid to accessorise with wall-hangings (to make the otherwise bare walls interesting) and comfortable cushions (to soften the hard edges).
